Is there too much tension, conflict, disrespect or indifference in your relationship with a loved one?  Is being a parent too stressful?  Are you struggling to find balance and peace in your family life?  Maybe you have a child who is challenging and you are feeling overwhelmed or locked in a power struggle?  Are differing parenting styles creating conflict?  With over 20 years of experience as a workshop presenter, parent educator, counselor and therapist, Tory Joseph has experienced positive results with hundreds of families.   She works with couples, parents and individuals to address problems, improve relationships and create a healthy, successful family life.
Tory Joseph has over 20 years of experience in teaching, counseling and education.  Tory is a graduate of Boston University and Johns Hopkins University with a M. Ed. in Counseling and a Post Masters Certificate in Clinical Community Counseling.  She is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor. Among Tory’s areas of expertise are:

Parenting Education and Counseling
As a counselor and parent educator, and the mother of three grown children, I will help you understand the reasons for your child’s misbehavior.  As an Adlerian therapist, I believe that all behavior has a purpose. Once you understand the goal of your child’s behavior, you will be able to redirect it to create positive change.  You will learn new methods to help create an atmosphere of cooperation, mutual respect and encouragement.  It is exciting to see the positive changes that can result from using this proven approach to challenging situations:

  •    Develop respectful communication
  •    Cooperate as a family
  •    Manage emotions and reduce stress
  •    Reduce sibling conflicts
  •    Empower children to be independent and self-motivated
  •    Use consequences that teach, instead of punishment that causes resentment
  •    Understand and work toward your goals and values
  •    Create academic success
  •    Diffuse power struggles

Couples Therapy
As an Imago Relationship Therapist, I offer couples a safe place to communicate and build a relationship of mutual respect, understanding and growth.  In Imago Therapy, you will learn to uncover the root cause of conflict within your relationship.    As a couple, you will begin to create emotional safety and intimacy and develop your relationship to its fullest potential.  Imago teaches couples to respect each other’s desires and priorities, and fully understand each other’s point of view.  You will learn communication skills to help you break away from old, destructive patterns, and learn a new, positive way of relating.

Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, we will work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life.  This may include how to manage difficult emotions, improve decision-making, and create a healthy blend of work, leisure and relationships. Some of the issues that I can help you with include:

  • Managing life transitions: Career change, becoming a parent, and an empty nest are all major life changes.  Having experienced all of these transitions, I know the fear, helplessness and loneliness that can sometimes accompany change.  We can work together to develop positve attitudes, beliefs and solutions to these challenges
  • Anger management: Learn that anger can be an indicator for growth and change
  • Finding fulillment, passion and joy in your life.  Overcome ambivalence, fear, destructive behavior and move toward your goals
